US Envoy Rules Out Ground Intervention in Yemen Conflict
Speaking at the Global Security Forum in Doha, Qatar, Barrack, who serves as the US ambassador to Türkiye and special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq, said President Donald Trump supports providing logistical backing to Riyadh as tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis intensify.
Barrack called on Middle Eastern nations to strengthen cooperation and build regional security partnerships instead of depending on the United States to settle their disputes.
He explained that Washington is reshaping its approach to the Middle East, shifting away from direct military involvement and control toward helping regional governments take greater responsibility for their own security.
The envoy emphasized that the change does not mean the US is abandoning its allies. However, he argued that Washington should not be expected to resolve every conflict across the region.
Addressing the situation in Yemen, Barrack expressed doubts about the effectiveness of a direct military campaign against the Houthis. He instead pointed to negotiations involving Saudi Arabia, the group and regional mediators as a more practical path toward resolving the conflict.
