Đurić Meets with Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić met, on the margins of the Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade, with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji.
Reflecting on the historic significance of the Non-Aligned Movement and the universal principles underpinning it, the interlocutors recalled the Movement’s First Conference and Friendship Park, where the first “Tree of Peace” was planted by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Al-Sowayel.
Đurić took the opportunity to once again express his gratitude for the exceptional cooperation and support provided by the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the evacuation of citizens of the Republic of Serbia from Riyadh amid the recent developments in the Middle East.
He emphasised that Serbia is committed to deepening its overall cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with particular emphasis on economic cooperation. Đurić noted that he was impressed by the achievements made by the Kingdom under its comprehensive Vision 2030 development programme, which he had the opportunity to witness first-hand during his visit to Riyadh for the Future Investment Initiative Conference last year.
According to Đurić, Serbia is interested in further advancing trade cooperation with Saudi Arabia, increasing exports of Serbian products and drawing on the knowledge and expertise of Saudi specialists in the fields of science and technology.
During today’s meeting, the interlocutors, on behalf of their respective governments, signed the Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Special and Service Passports.
Đurić stated that the Agreement lays an important foundation for the bilateral legal framework governing consular cooperation, adding that the opening of an Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Belgrade would provide further impetus in this regard.
