Indian PM Urges De-Escalation in Mideast During Call With Kuwait Emir
A statement from the Prime Minister’s office said the two leaders discussed the rapidly evolving security situation in the region.
Modi expressed “deep concern” over the recent escalation and reiterated India’s “strong condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” according to the statement.
He further emphasized the need for “de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy” in order to restore stability and peace at the earliest opportunity.
The call came amid renewed exchanges of fire between Iran and Israel following a ceasefire that had been in place since April, as tensions in the region continued to rise after recent Iranian strikes in the Gulf.
In related developments, reports indicated that an Indian national was killed in an Iranian drone strike on Kuwait International Airport. Kuwaiti authorities also said the strikes resulted in one death, 63 injuries, and damage to several key facilities, including diplomatic premises.
