Iranian Drones Strike Kuwait Airport

(MENAFN) Kuwait International Airport sustained drone strikes Wednesday, inflicting significant structural damage and wounding multiple people, Kuwait's Defense Ministry confirmed — prompting authorities to suspend and divert all flights "until further notice."

The "hostile" drones struck directly at the airport's main passenger terminal (T1), Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said in an official statement, describing "significant" damage to the building. Those injured received immediate medical treatment, he added.

"The Kuwaiti Armed Forces are monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and remain on full alert to respond to any developments," Al-Otaibi said.

In a separate announcement, Kuwait's General Directorate of Civil Aviation activated an emergency plan at the airport in the wake of the assault.

Responsibility for the attack points squarely at Tehran — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed early Wednesday that strikes targeting US bases in Kuwait were launched in direct retaliation for an American strike on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.

The escalation marks a sharp and dangerous spike in regional tensions, with a major civilian airport now drawn into the crossfire of US-Iran hostilities — raising urgent questions about the safety of air travel and foreign military presence across the Gulf.
