Drone Hits Cargo Ship in Qatar's Waters

(MENAFN) A commercial cargo vessel operating within Qatar's territorial waters came under drone attack on Sunday, the Qatar Ministry of Defense confirmed, marking a fresh escalation in regional maritime tensions.

According to an official statement issued by the ministry, the vessel — inbound from Abu Dhabi — was struck northeast of Mesaieed Port during the morning hours, triggering a fire onboard.

Authorities reported that the resulting blaze was contained in scope, and no injuries were recorded among those aboard. Emergency response teams moved swiftly to bring the fire under control, after which the necessary measures were coordinated with relevant authorities to allow the vessel to continue safely to Mesaieed Port.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and Qatari authorities have yet to publicly identify the origin of the drone strike.
