UAE Intercepts Missile, Drone Barrage Launched from Iran

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates reported on Wednesday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted a large wave of missiles and drones launched from Iran, according to the country’s Defense Ministry.

“UAE air defense systems neutralized six ballistic missiles, seven cruise missiles, and 39 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials also provided cumulative totals since the onset of hostilities, noting that Emirati defenses have so far intercepted 268 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,514 drones. The attacks have led to six fatalities and 131 injuries among people of various nationalities.

This surge in attacks follows US and Israeli military strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, which occurred while negotiations between Tehran and Washington were ongoing. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory strikes targeting Israel and sites in regional countries hosting US military bases, including Qatar, the UAE, and Bahrain.

During the US-Israeli operations, Iran’s then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei was among several senior officials killed. Iranian authorities report that the joint strikes have claimed the lives of 1,332 people.
