Iran, Oman Foreign Ministers Hold Pre-Geneva Talks

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Monday in a high-stakes diplomatic session aimed at laying the groundwork for the next round of indirect Iran-U.S. negotiations, set to take place in Geneva, according to a statement published on social media by Oman's Foreign Ministry.

The two senior diplomats discussed preparations for the forthcoming indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, with both sides affirming "the need to advance understanding toward a mutually satisfactory agreement," the statement said.

Al Busaidi used the meeting to reaffirm Oman's unwavering commitment to dialogue and mediation, expressing gratitude to both parties for their continued confidence in Omani diplomatic efforts, according to the statement.

The Geneva meeting will mark the second round of such negotiations after Iranian and U.S. delegations — led respectively by Araghchi and U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff — held a first round of indirect talks in Muscat on February 6. Witkoff is expected to once again head the U.S. delegation at the Geneva session, according to U.S. media reports.

Oman has long served as a trusted back-channel broker between the two adversarial nations, a role it appears poised to maintain as both sides edge cautiously toward a potential agreement.
