Yemeni Presidential Council Members Oppose Chairman’s Moves
Earlier the same day, PLC Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced a 90-day nationwide state of emergency, citing the necessity of protecting national security and maintaining public order.
In addition, al-Alimi revoked a security agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and directed the withdrawal of UAE forces from Yemen within 24 hours.
In a collective statement, the four PLC members emphasized that the presidential council functions as a shared authority, with decisions requiring either consensus or majority approval. They underscored that unilateral measures on matters of sovereignty and security "lack legal and constitutional basis."
The members further reiterated Yemen’s dedication to the anti-Houthi coalition, highlighting the UAE as a "key partner" in countering the Houthi movement and bolstering regional and maritime security.
The statement also cautioned against exploiting state institutions for political disputes, urging a return to partnership, shared leadership, and consensus to avert deeper political and security crises.
